Dublin is a city rich in history and culture with Trinity Collage and the Book of Kells at its heart and our day starts with a visit to both to make the most of our time I would recommend that you prebook your tickets saving you time that can be better spent later in the day
On leaving Trinity collage we head towards the Wicklow mountains and one of the top gardens in the world at Powerscourt House. The gardens have been Bee and eco friendly for the last number of years with no pesticides or weedkiller used in the gardens making it a haven for wildlife and showing gardeners that they can still have wonderful gardens without damaging the eco system.
On Leaving Powerscourt Estate we travel through the Wicklow Mountains to Glendalough, an extensive monastic complex, is located in a glacial valley consisting of two lakes (the Upper and Lower Lakes) which explains the Irish place name Gleann dá Locha ‘the valley of the two lakes’. This is an archaeologically and architecturally rich landscape that is matched by a wealth of historical documents. Evidence for human activity in the valley possibly goes as far back as the Neolithic Period excavations have uncovered industrial activity that may be contemporary with St Kevin’s foundation of a ‘monastery’ around 600AD. Glendalough is one of the most important medieval ecclesiastical landscapes in Ireland and since the nineteenth century one of Ireland’s premier tourist attractions.
